Disciplne and Duty - Burden or Gift? A to Z of Spanking Challenge #SpankA2Z

Welcome to Day 4 of the From A to Z of Spanking Blogging Challenge #SpankA2Z

is for Duty.  Yep that's right duty.  We tend to consider this word negatively in a modern setting.  Something out dated and past its usefulness.  Duty is a burden. Or so we think.  But duty can be liberating.  When we're not sure of our way, or our role, duty can be a lifesaver.  If we want to show respect, do the right thing or even convince someone of our love.  In domestic discipline, I believe duty plays an important role.  The duty to chastise and the duty to accept that chastisement can be a secure, comforting and profound gift.

So what do you think?  Does duty play a role in your life?   Why not check out this extract where duty is misread.

Duty in HIS By Design

Julian rode up in the elevator with her, coming into her office to supposedly say hello to Greg and Mary Jane, but Claire was pretty sure it was to consolidate his claim in front of Richard. This was confirmed when she noticed Richard's scowl at Julian’s hand subtle soothing her sore bottom as he talked to her colleagues.

Torn between feeling humiliated and gratified by Julian's public possessiveness, she walked him back out to the reception.  While they waited for the elevator, she couldn’t help asking. “Sure you wouldn’t like to come back in and piss around my desk?”

The sound of his deep, rich laughter made her pelvis clench involuntarily. She gasped at the sensation that created with the plug inside her.

He took her arm and looked her unwaveringly in the eye. “Don’t act like this isn’t what you want. These aren’t strong arm tactics, Claire.” He told her, answering the accusation she'd thrown at him back at the house. "You're my wife. Would you really want me to ignore this? To turn a blind eye to your behavior over, Blake? You might not be willing to admit it, but you know I’d be failing you as a husband if I did. It’s my duty.”

Claire’s heart had pounded as he spoke. His claim reminded her of how she felt when he had seemed to ignore the issue yesterday afternoon. She felt a pleasant heat flood her. Until his last words sunk in. They made her stomach clench in disappointment. She stared at him belligerently, but her tone was despondent. “Great. First I’m a distraction. Now I’m a duty?”

His hand dropped from her arm and slipped around her waist in a clasp that was a soft caress. His gentleness disarmed her and he was able to bring her unresisting body towards his own. The kiss was feather light, filled with tenderness. Claire melted against him. This was Julian at his most irresistible.  It was at moments like these she knew she was closest to his heart. Last night, her own passion had found an outlet, but it was a solitary occupation. He’d been at his most distant, concerned only with achieving his purpose. Now he was giving, sharing what love he was prepared to offer.

Claire drew closer, wrapping her arms around his neck, losing her fingers in his hair and herself in him. She was pouring all her love into the kiss, but she was also taking, hoping to draw from him that which was not yet hers. A thrill of exultation filled her as she felt him open to her. It seemed they teetered together on the edge of a precipice. She tried to pull him over, and for a brief, tantalizing moment it seemed he would come. But then he stood away from her. His lips and arms left her and she was once more alone. He slipped his hands into his pockets.

"I have to get to work." His voice was uneven, husky.

She nodded, her disappointment robbing her of speech. She raised her eyes to his to take her farewell.  They were glazed, but behind that she saw something else, something she couldn't identify. She walked back into the office, her mind struggling to expose it. Somehow she knew it held the key to the complex puzzle that her husband was proving to be.

She buried herself in work all morning, shifting on her welted bottom and trying to resist the arousal of the plug. It distracted her enough to make Mary Jane look at her more often than she liked. Deciding to take a break she walked into the washroom. Looking in the mirror, she ran water over her wrists and studied her face. Her lips were swollen from the force of Julian’s kisses last night. She ran her fingers over them, her heart wrapping around the beauty of his last kiss this morning. If only he’d give in. What was it that was holding him back? Was it Susanna’s memory? Could he ever love her as much? Claire straitened, narrowing her eyes in the mirror. Squaring her shoulders, she gazed back at her reflection determinedly. She’d win his love. All of it. No matter how hard she had to fight. Even if it meant fighting a ghost.

She strode out the washroom and back into the office, past Richard, without even noticing his presence. She was so fired with her determination it translated itself into an energy that amazed her co-workers. By the time they were having their lunch, she’d completed almost a full day's work in only half a morning. Suddenly she sat upright, a look on her face that drew a concerned exclamation from Mary-Jane. Claire didn't hear her. She was too amazed by her discovery. The identity of the emotion she’d seen at the back of Julian's eyes revealed to her. Fear!

The year a mutual friend introduces Hollywood haute couture designer Julian West to feature reporter Claire Fitzpatrick, they are both grieving the loss of a loved one - Julian his film star wife and Claire her adoring father.  Regardless, it is the start of an enduring friendship. A friendship where both comfortably forget the sizzling attraction that flared between them when they first met.  Six years on, that attraction re-emerges when Julian spanks Claire.  She is surprised at how much his short, swift discipline arouses her. As their romance blossoms, it is not long before he takes her across his knee to deliver lengthier bare bottomed spankings, both erotic and disciplinary.

But neither of them is prepared for the deep love each comes to feel, but are unsure the other shares. When Claire's ex-lover reappears on the scene and Claire suspects Julian has never stopped loving his late wife, their doubts and fears ignite passions that will either bind them irrevocably together or tear them apart. When they are finally faced with the release of overwhelming emotions Julian has spent years repressing, the couple must decide if they will go their separate ways or if theirs will be a love designed to last.
